Search for “Instagram Edits download” and you will find dozens of pages offering installers, APK files, and paid downloads. Almost all of them are selling something Instagram gives away free. Instagram Edits is the full name of the app most people just call Edits: a free video editor made by Instagram for Android and iPhone. There is no separate “Instagram Edits” installer, and there is no official desktop version to download.

30-second answer: Download Instagram Edits free from the Google Play Store or the App Store, where the publisher is Instagram, Inc. On a PC or Mac, run that same free app inside an Android emulator. Never pay for an installer, an APK file, or an “Instagram Edits Pro” download.

Instagram Edits is Edits
Instagram Edits and Edits are the same app. Instagram calls its video editor Edits, and the full store listing reads “Edits: Video Editor” with Instagram as the developer on Google Play and Instagram, Inc. as the seller on the App Store. If a page tells you that Instagram Edits is a different, more powerful, or paid version of Edits, it is inventing a distinction that does not exist.
The naming confusion is exactly what clone sites exploit. They rank for “Instagram Edits download” and offer a file that looks official because it borrows Instagram’s name and colours. The real app is free, it comes only from the two official stores, and it is the same download whether you search for Edits or for Instagram Edits. Our download guide and our Edits app guide cover the same ground from the app’s side.
The official Instagram Edits download
There are exactly two official places to download Instagram Edits. On Android, it is the Google Play Store listing “Edits: Video Editor” by Instagram, with the package name com.instagram.basel and no price shown. On iPhone, it is the App Store listing “Edits: Video Editor” with the seller Instagram, Inc. and a Get button, not a price. If the button shows a price, a subscription, or a checkout form, you are not looking at the official app.
Everything else about the app is free as well: editing, captions, effects, and exporting at 1080 x 1920 carry no watermark and no payment screen. If you want the full free-versus-paid picture, our free Edits download guide walks through every charge you should never pay, and our APK guide covers the one narrow case where a reputable archive file makes sense.
Download on Android
Open the Google Play Store on your phone and search for “Edits”. Open the listing called “Edits: Video Editor” and confirm the developer reads Instagram before you tap Install. Check that your phone has around 1 GB of free storage and a stable connection, because a half-downloaded install is the most common cause of a failed first launch.
Once installed, sign in with your Instagram account and make a short test edit before you invest time in a real project: trim a clip, add a caption, and export it. If the export carries no watermark and no payment screen appears, you have the genuine app. If your phone has no Play Store, do not buy a file from a random site; read the APK guide first and verify the publisher and package name.
Download on iPhone
Open the App Store, search for “Edits”, and open “Edits: Video Editor”. Confirm the seller is Instagram, Inc. and that the button reads Get, then tap it and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password. The app needs iOS 16.3 or later, so an older iPhone may need a software update first.
There is no APK, sideload, or installer route on iPhone, and any site offering an “Instagram Edits IPA” or a paid iPhone version is a scam. If the App Store says the app is unavailable in your region, wait for official availability rather than trusting a third-party profile or enterprise certificate, both of which can expose your device and your Instagram account.
Download on a PC or Mac
There is no Instagram Edits download for Windows or macOS, because Meta has not released a desktop version. Any site offering an “Instagram Edits for PC” installer is selling a repack, a clone, or nothing at all. The honest route is the same one this site documents throughout: install a free Android emulator such as BlueStacks on your computer, then install the official Edits app from the Play Store inside it.
For the full setup, follow our PC guide or our Mac guide, and check our desktop availability page for what works on each machine. You can also keep editing on your phone and use the computer only for reviewing exports, which suits many creators better than an emulator.
Spotting fake Instagram Edits downloads
Fake download pages follow a pattern once you know it. They use Instagram’s name and gradient colours, promise a desktop installer or a Pro version, and push a big download button above a checkout form or a file host full of lookalike buttons. Some also ask you to complete surveys, install a second app, or hand over your Instagram password before the download starts. None of that happens with the real app.
- A price anywhere. The real app is free; a price means a clone or a repack.
- A Windows or Mac installer. No desktop version exists, so no installer can be genuine.
- “Pro”, “unlocked”, or “premium”. There is no paid tier to unlock.
- A password request. A download page never needs your Instagram password.
- A different publisher. Anything other than Instagram, Inc. is not the official app.
If you already installed a suspicious file, uninstall it, run a malware scan, and change your Instagram password from the official app or website. Then install the genuine app from the store and check that your account shows no unfamiliar logins.
Troubleshooting
- The store shows a price. You are looking at a clone. Search again for the listing by Instagram, or open it from the official buttons at the end of this page.
- Install fails or stalls. Free up storage, switch to stable Wi-Fi, and restart the phone before retrying.
- The app asks for payment after install. Uninstall it at once. The real Edits never asks for payment.
- Sign-in fails. Confirm you are in the official app, then reset your Instagram password through Instagram itself.
- Exports look blurry. Check your export preset is 1080 x 1920 and that the source clips are not low resolution.

Frequently asked questions
Is Instagram Edits the same as Edits?
Yes. Instagram Edits is the full name of the app listed as “Edits: Video Editor” by Instagram. There is no separate or more powerful Instagram Edits version.
Where is the official Instagram Edits download?
Only the Google Play Store and the App Store. On Play, the developer is Instagram; on the App Store, the seller is Instagram, Inc. Anywhere else is unofficial.
Is there an Instagram Edits download for PC?
No. There is no official desktop version of Edits, so no Windows or Mac installer can be genuine. On a computer, run the free mobile app inside an Android emulator.
Why do some sites sell an Instagram Edits installer?
Because the search term is popular and the real app is free. Those sites sell repacks, clones, or nothing at all, and some exist to harvest passwords or install malware.
Is Instagram Edits free?
Yes. Downloading, editing, and exporting are all free, with no paid tier and no watermark on exports from the official app.
Does Instagram Edits add a watermark?
No. Exports from the official free app carry no watermark. If your video has one, it came from a different editor.
Edits for PC is an independent, unofficial guide. It is not affiliated with Meta Platforms, Inc. or Instagram, and it does not host or sell the Edits app.
Keeping Instagram Edits updated
Instagram Edits changes often. New editing tools, caption styles, and effects arrive through app updates, and an update sometimes fixes a bug that was ruining exports. If your app is months out of date, a feature a tutorial mentions may simply not be on your phone yet, so keeping the app current is the cheapest way to avoid confusion.
On Android, updates normally arrive on their own. Open the Google Play Store, search for Edits, and check that automatic updates are on for the app. If you turned them off to save data, open the listing now and then and tap Update when one is waiting. On iPhone, the same job is done by the App Store: open Settings, then App Store, and confirm automatic updates are on, or open the App Store listing for Edits and tap Update by hand.
Update inside the same place you installed from. On a computer, that means opening the Play Store inside your Android emulator and updating Edits there, not downloading a new file from a website. A file offered as a new version outside the stores is exactly the kind of repack this guide warns about, even when its version number looks newer than the one you have.
If an update stalls, the usual fixes work: free up storage, switch to stable Wi-Fi, restart the phone, and try again. If the store still refuses, check that your phone’s operating system meets the app’s minimum version. An old operating system is the most common reason a listing shows no update at all.
One habit is worth keeping: finish and export any project you care about before you update. Updates very rarely disturb saved projects, but an export in hand means a bad update can never cost you a finished video. Skip beta versions unless you enjoy surprises. The public release has the features this site documents, while beta builds can move buttons and break projects.
- Before updating: export any finished project.
- After updating: open a test project and check captions and exports still look right.
- Never update from: a download link, a file host, or a page that asks for your password.
